Mutual Construction Co.
Company Profile
Mike BarnesIn 1972 Michael Reid (Mike) Barnes founded the Mutual Construction Transvaal Proprietary Limited company ("MCC Group"), which operated as MCC Plant Hire and has since evolved into the group of companies that it is today.

Mike has built an impeccable reputation in the plant and equipment industry, and property industry. His foray into mining also led him to build one of the largest private mining companies in Africa. This was achieved through his unique ability to adapt his skills and "big picture" policies to different industries. These skills, combined with his incredible energy, open-door policy and capacity to handle immense pressure in the work place, inspire his fellow workers.

Being the innovative thinker, Mike enjoys a challenge and will always be the first to exploit any potential business opportunities by quickly identifying the bigger picture and channelling any synergies into a master plan. In some instances, these potential business opportunities may appear unviable to the untrained eye, but inevitably they mature into successful business ventures with extraordinary results.

Not surprisingly, Mike made a success out of property development and mastered industrial developments in Kew, Wynberg, Kyalami Business Park and Access Park to name a few. He then turned his attention to developing upmarket residential properties in Fourways, Kyalami, Hyde Park, Morningside, Sandton, Welgevonden and Cape Town.

Roes van Achterbergh is one of the most experienced development managers and project leaders in South Africa. His first job was as a bricklayer and over the years Roes worked his way up to his current position. This humble beginning provided him with an in-depth understanding of the business aspects of his chosen profession, and gave him valuable insights into its finer artistic and creative sides. This experience, coupled with his understanding and insight, makes Roes a leading development manager and project leader.

In 1999 Roes Van Achterbergh Projects merged with Mutual Construction Company.

The merger of these two companies represents a significant milestone for both companies and positions the merged company at the forefront of property development in South Africa. The merger also represents the coming together of financial muscle, quality, customer service, reliability, experience and most importantly, impeccable track records. All these factors augur well for the new company and place it in favourable position to explore more and larger opportunities.
